We are an architecture firm based in both Helena, Montana and Omaha, Nebraska. Slate Architecture is one firm, two locations. We develop creative solutions for interior and exterior spaces, working collaboratively to produce architectural designs that enhance the human experience. From simple, interior renovations to multi-million dollar building designs, Slate Architecture approaches every project with care and attention to detail. We view architecture as more than the mere production of a building, but rather the creation of place, drawing from the fullest range of possibilities and design innovations.

History
Dwayne Brown started Slate Architecture in 1997 to offer a unique and holistic experience in architectural design. Scott Cromwell was the first employee in the new company, and together they hit the ground running. Following an opportunity to move back home to Montana, Scott opened the Helena office. Since the beginning, Slate Architecture has successfully delivered individualized client environments by drawing on the fullest range of possibilities. We design places and spaces that put the user at the heart of employing best practices, sustainability, and a thorough understanding of our clients’ mission and operation. In 2019, Slate Architecture added a third partner, Jacob Augenstein, in our Helena office. Jeremy Carlson became our fourth partner in 2020 in our Omaha office.
The belief in place over building has enabled Slate Architecture to provide clients with innovative and cost-effective design solutions, accurate and complete construction documents, and a high level of responsive service, from conceptual design through post-construction occupancy. Our size, experience, project delivery, and business philosophy commits a balanced mix of senior leadership, talented staff, and personal commitment to each assignment.
Along with our clients, we are charged with anticipating the future, supporting each decision process with comprehensive analysis, from the identification and projection of needs to design and build-out through post-occupancy evaluations and management support. The result for each project is a cost-effective, distinctive solution aligned with client goals that are responsive to human scale and spirit.
